Who We Are
For more than 30 years, Utahns Against Hunger (UAH) has worked to expand the reach of nutrition programs to the estimated 1 in 6 households in Utah that struggle to afford food. UAH works to shape public policy, make nutrition programs work for the people who need them, and outreach to those who may be eligible for these nutrition programs. With UAH’s interest in larger food system work, we bring together the food insecurity and local food conversations. The Real Food Rising (RFR) program brings those conversations together in practice. RFR is a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and to increase access to healthy food in Salt Lake. On the largest urban farm in Salt Lake City, RFR grows food for the community, provides high school age youth with meaningful job opportunities, and mobilizes community members to give back by growing and harvesting produce on our farm and through outreach work events in the community.

About the Position

The Real Food Rising Program Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of Real Food Rising including planning, organizing, fundraising, staffing, leading, and overseeing program activities. This often includes helping out on the farm and leading fruit harvests in the community. In our third growing season, RFR has expanded our operation to 1.25 acres of urban farmland and our produce gets donated to food pantries, sold to restaurants, and sold at our farm stand. Our clients are the youth in our program and those who eat our food, the hundreds of kids who visit the farm for educational field trips, the hundreds of volunteers who help out on our land, and the farmers, community gardeners, and fruit tree homeowners who we help by assisting them with their farms, sites, and generous fruit trees.

Who You Are

Applicants must be self-starters who can learn on the job, with excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
