Mindfulness Group Therapist

I am seeking a licensed therapist (e.g., LCSW, or LPC) who is a Colorado CADAC (certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor) for a part-time therapist position working on a NIH-funded clinical trial of an innovative mindfulness-based treatment (Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement, see http://drericgarland.com/m-o-r-e/) for chronic pain and prescription opioid misuse among active duty soldiers.  Experience with personal mindfulness meditation practice is required; experience teaching mindfulness to others or delivering mindfulness-based therapy is ideal. The therapist will deliver MORE during 8-week group sessions held at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs. Sessions meet 1 X per week for 2 hours at a time. The therapist will also be responsible for participating in weekly phone supervision with the developer of MORE (Eric Garland, PhD, LCSW). Pay is $1200 per 8-week treatment group. 10 treatment groups will be delivered over the course of 3 years. In addition, there may be the opportunity to work as a research assistant for the trial, for additional pay. Job duties include:

  • conducting 8 weekly group therapy sessions, each lasting 2 hours, for up to 15 participants
  • contacting participants on an as-needed basis to follow-up after missed group therapy sessions
  • participating in clinical supervision by phone or in-person for 1 hour a week

Contractual fee: $1200 per 8 week treatment group. Up to 10 groups will be conducted over a 3 year period from January 2014 through June 2016.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, psychiatric nursing
  • Clinical license in social work, psychology, counseling, or psychiatric nursing
  • Experiencing providing substance abuse treatment and/or psychological treatment of chronic pain
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to change therapeutic approach per direction of supervisor
  • Certified Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC)
  • Mindfulness practice experience (either personal practice or teaching mindfulness to clients)

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in a military environment with soldiers and/or veterans
  • Malpractice insurance
  • Experience in conducting clinical research
