Outreach Worker & Volunteer Coordinator VISTA Job Description:
This position will work to strengthen and expand our outreach efforts with food stamps, farmers markets that accept food
stamps, and the Summer Food Service Program. This position will also be responsible for strengthening our current social
media plan and rolling it out. A smaller component of this position will be to conduct volunteer recruitment and training
orientations. This position is based in Salt Lake City and is a National AmeriCorps Anti-Hunger VISTA position through
the New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH). The start date for this 12-month position is the
beginning/middle of February 2014.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organized individual who can help UAH:
expand Food Stamp Program outreach and trainings in the community
coordinate certain aspects of food stamps efforts at farmers markets including: recruiting volunteers, distributing
outreach materials, generating press, and creating a Farmers Market Food Stamp outreach toolkit
create a format for sharing information for farmers market managers across the state
conduct Summer Food Service Program coordination and outreach
recruit and train volunteers to facilitate outreach to the community
take existing social media plan and implement roll out plan; institutionalize and train staff on plan
research and write grants
other duties as assigned
• Excellent written and communication skills • Able to work independently and take initiative
• Responsible, independent and open to learning and feedback • Spanish language skills a plus
• Team-oriented with a good sense of humor • Experience with Microsoft office, Word Press, html
What VISTA is:
AmeriCorps VISTA builds capacity in non-profit organizations and communities to help bring individuals and
communities out of poverty. VISTA members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific
project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. VISTA members focus their efforts on building the
organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services,
foster economic develop, and otherwise assist low-income communities. VISTAs develop programs to meet a need,
write grants, and recruit and train volunteers.
Who NYCCAH is:
NYCCAH – the New York City Coalition Against Hunger – has developed a National Anti-Hunger & Opportunity
Corps that facilitates anti-hunger organizations across the country to engage/employ VISTA members in work to
fight hunger and improve nutrition.
Serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you are eligible for the following:
• Living allowance of $11,352 per year • Health Insurance
• Education Award (Upon completion of service-$5,550) • Student Loan Deferment
