Vital Aging Project Wins Award!! Salt Lake County Aging Services is among the recipients of a 2013 Aging Achievement Award for the Vital Aging Project.  The award will be given at the Annual Conference in Louisville, KY, July 27-31, 2013.

The Vital Aging Project (a service of VMH) provides personalized, confidential consultations to seniors and their families, mental health assessments, treatment and all kinds of classes to promote well-being and creative adaptations to aging.

Valley Mental Health’s Masters Senior Service Program is seeking a CMHC or LCSW for an exciting career opportunity to work with the Vital Aging Project. The Vital Aging Project began in 2009; when Salt Lake County Aging Services and the Masters Senior Services Program of Valley Mental Health formed an initiative to promote senior wellness. The Project provides specialized mental health services to adults age 60 plus. Emphasis is on provision of services in environment that is familiar and non-threatening. The Project has been designed to offer weekly psychoeducational groups, memory and mood screenings, as well as mental health therapy services at seven Senior Centers and one housing complex. Services also include Senior Center and Housing staff consultations for identification of team training needs such as participant behavioral management and intervention techniques as well as recognition of older adult mental health needs. After staff training needs have been identified, appropriate staff trainings are then scheduled and conducted by a Vital Aging Project team member. The Consultation and Training portion of position requires – strong verbal and written skills.

Duties include: scheduling and conducting staff consultations; scheduling, presentation, and discussion of the training material with Center/Housing staff, then drafting a written summary of training provided; as well as drafting and/or revision of the staff training modules. Travel is required and reimbursed. Other duties for this position include compiling of monthly service reports for submittal to Salt Lake County, and Valley Mental Health administrative staff. This position may also provide clinical supervision as needed; to Vital Aging Project team members who are not fully licensed.

Qualifications Master’s degree and licensed as a CMHC or LCSW in the State of Utah. Experience working with seniors preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
